Is there any way to get the PiCapture to capture the full area of a PAL signal please?
We have purchased a bunch of these boards to use but our product has menu overlays on the video outside the 640×480 area so the cropping removes part of the menu making it unuseable.
I’ve tried raspivid on a pi camera and I can get that to do a 576×720 ROI and encode it to h.264 so the MMAL API and the tools can handle that resolution.
Is there anything you know of I can do to get the picapture working or is it a limit in your hardware? Is a new FPGA image for this resolution possible?
Could a PiCapture HD be used instead, with a composite to HDMI converter, is there any cropping?
Unfortunately, the current design of the SD1 only supports “camera mode 6” which is 640×480. For both NTSC and PAL signals we resample horizontally but crop the frame vertically to fit the signal to those dimensions. This is a limitation of the FPGA code/software and not the hardware, but at this time we do not have any plans to change this design.
The HD1 does not perform any de-interlacing, resampling, or cropping. For the supported video formats (480p, 720p, 1080p) the entire frame is provided to the RPi GPU.
