We bought the PiCapture HD1 card assuming it would be able to capture composite video, but looking at the product again it seems only the PiCapture SD1 is able to capture composite video? Can you confirm this?

Yes, that is correct.   The SD1 is required to capture interlaced, standard definition video sources.
