    Hi all,
I want to record a video with the following command:
    raspivid -o newvid.h264 -k -rf rgb -pf high -drc low -sa -50 -vs -br 40 -fps 30 -b 12000000

the important thing to note here is the -k option, which cycles between record and pause with the enter keystroke.

What I really want to do is start and stop recording with GPIO buttons, and I was wondering if there is any way to wither change the keystroke -k to something other than enter, or if the software had some native way to do that. Note that I am doing all of this from a python program using os.system(<command line stuff>) for the prompts.

Let me know if you have any ideas! Thanks!

I would suggest taking a look at the PiCamera package for complete program control of the capture process:
    https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/usage/camera/python/

This package will let you start and stop under GPIO control (and a bunch of other things!)
